Protecting Machinery and Productivity

At Italplant, innovation and safety are core values that drive our design and engineering choices. Today, we’d like to share an in-depth analysis of safety systems available on the market and highlight the advantages of our patented ATT-SOTL system compared to traditional solutions.

Understanding Conventional Safety Devices

In many systems, safety devices—specifically torque limiters—are placed on the input shaft of the motor. While these may offer a certain level of protection, it is important to clarify what they truly safeguard.

According to our internal analysis and testing, such devices only serve to protect the indexer’s internal mechanisms, including the roller followers, which are the most sensitive components of the transmission system.

However, they do not offer protection to the machine itself or to the operators, particularly in the event of external obstruction or human interaction with the moving parts, such as the dial plate stations.

The ATT-SOTL Advantage

This is where Italplant’s ATT-SOTL (Adjustable Torque Transmission – Safety Output Torque Limiter) system makes a significant difference.

Installed on the output side of the indexer, our ATT-SOTL:

  • Monitors and limits torque with high precision
  • Includes fine-tuning capabilities for maximum adaptability
  • Instantly disengages the entire drive system in the event of a jam or torque spike
  • Isolates the dial plate from the indexer, avoiding stress or damage
  • Halts the machine safely, preventing any risk of contact with obstructions

This smart detachment mechanism helps prevent not only mechanical failure but also serious accidents, making it a crucial layer of protection for any high-performance automation system.
